Duck, Duck… Baby Ducks?

These newly hatched ducklings took shelter under a tree in the courtyard, while students in classes with overlooking windows took pictures and videos for their snapchat stories. Soon enough, the baby ducks became Mounds View’s de facto mascots for the day. However, students and staff quickly found that the birds weren’t just taking shelter; they were trapped within the school walls.

Following their regional tournament win in Fargo, North Dakota this past June, the Mounds View Drone Club moved on to compete at the national tournament. After the two day competition in Manse, Indiana, the team emerged victorious, beating the 11 other teams from around the country and taking first place.

Designing the Design Space

Located in the ILC and what used to be room 220 DE and F, the newly opened design space is a space for innovation and creativity. Created by the school to extend the STEM philosophy, the new design space comes with state of the art 3-D printers and laser engravers that are usable free of charge.

On Nov. 14, 2014, middle school student Patrick Schoonover died after collapsing during a hockey game. In honor of their son, 1982 Mounds View graduate Mike Schoonover and his wife Gayle began the Patrick Schoonover Heart Foundation and the Play for Patrick Fund, offering free heart scans to teenagers.
