During the current school year, a majority of the Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) posters advertising meeting dates have been torn down and vandalized. Although GSA is a school-sanctioned club under Diversity Council, club members believe Mounds View has done little to address the problem.

On Monday, May 9, the school announced that all daily parking passes were sold out for the rest of the week. While daily shortages are not a new problem, this event caught students by surprise.

On Nov. 14, 2014, middle school student Patrick Schoonover died after collapsing during a hockey game. In honor of their son, 1982 Mounds View graduate Mike Schoonover and his wife Gayle began the Patrick Schoonover Heart Foundation and the Play for Patrick Fund, offering free heart scans to teenagers.
